Ugandan musicians started of 2020 on a high note with many releasing new music in January. However , there can only be a few that stand out from the rest and here we chose our top 5 picks;
5. Quinamino by Azawi
In 2019, Swangz Avenue signed new talented musician called Azawi. She dropped off her new single Quinamino in January and the song has been going places, playing on TV, radio stations and hangout spots. The single rose to charts and has managed to maintain its hit status all the way till February.
4. Bomboclat by Ykee Benda ft All stars
Ykee Benda dropped a hit collaboration in January that was unexpected. The collaboration features various hip hop artistes for example Big Trill, Fefe Bussi, Santana and Navio. The song trended very fast because of its message and is arguably the only interesting collaboration in Uganda right now.
3. Nekwatako by John Blaq
2019’s biggest star dropped his single “nekwatako” in January and as usual he didn’t disappoint. The song follows up his previous hit “ebyalagirwa” and is a love song as well. The song was the most downloaded on different sites and earned massive airplay on Radio and TV as well.
2. Ekyama by Sheebah.
Queen Karma Sheebah dropped a new song in January and the video was released on New year’s night. The song shows Sheebah express an artistic side of her with minimal choreography . The song was widely promoted by her fans “the sheebaholics” who made various challengs that got the song popular instantly.
1. Jangu by Winnie Nwagi
Curvy singer Winnie Nwagi is winning 2020. Her song “jangu” which is Luganda for “come to me” The song is the biggest in the country and this is attributed to its video that shows a fierce Nwagi showcasing erotic dance moves with a male dancer. The song is undeniably a hit as Winnie gets to show her incredible vocal talent as she sings in different tones throughout the song. It became the most talked about song in January which led it to top charts throughout the country. 2020 might just be the year of Winnie.
